Windows Tablets: Buffalo NY
Every other tablet asks your software to adapt. A Surface just runs it. This comparison covers the Surface Pro 11, Surface Go 4, and Surface Laptop Studio for Buffalo NY professionals and students who need real Windows in something they can carry.
Updated July 2026 · Keyboard sold separately, budget for it · Editors rating 4.8 / 5
One machine for work programs, pen notes, and travel? Surface Pro 11. The cheapest real Windows tablet for email, browsing, and point of sale duty? Surface Go 4. 3D, CAD, or video with discrete graphics? Surface Laptop Studio, which bends into a drafting easel when the keyboard gets in the way.
One thing ties them together, and no iPad or Galaxy Tab offers it: the entire Windows software catalog with a real file system, true multi-window juggling, and external monitors that behave like they would on a desktop. If the employer runs on Windows, a Surface plugs into that world with zero translation.
Ordered by how many Buffalo buyers each one actually fits.
The flagship 2-in-1. It brings Snapdragon X power with 12 to 14 hour battery life, a 13 inch 120Hz screen, and a kickstand that still embarrasses every imitator. With the keyboard it is a laptop; alone it is a boardroom-grade pen tablet.
The 16GB RAM tier is the floor for professional use. On upper trims, an OLED display option arrives, and it is worth a look for photo work.

The small business workhorse. It is a 10.5 inch tablet that runs full Windows for front desk check-ins, kiosk duty, invoicing from the truck, and homework. It will not render video, and it does not pretend it will. For lightweight Windows anywhere, it is the cheapest honest ticket.
Display: 10.5 inch · Weight: 1.2 lb · Ports: USB-C, Surface Connect
The specialist. A 14.4 inch screen rides on a double hinge that slides from laptop to easel, backed by discrete graphics the other two lack. Buy it for 3D work, video editing, or serious digital art in Windows software; skip it when a normal laptop shape would do.

For a decade, tablets died on the hill of almost-compatibility. There is the company expense portal that only certifies Chrome on Windows. The estimating software from 2016 that the office refuses to replace. The Excel workbook with macros that mobile Office silently breaks. A Surface clears all of it, joins the company domain, and takes group policy from the same IT closet as every desktop. That is why corporate fleets keep choosing them over sleeker rivals. If none of those sentences describe the life, an iPad Pro is thinner and its app store is deeper; the student and business laptop guide covers the clamshell route as well.

The pattern around Western New York is consistent. Engineers at Moog in East Aurora and Linde in Tonawanda carry Surface Pros, because the simulation and CAD viewers they need are Windows-only. Downtown, laptops flip into tablet mode for signatures in M&T Bank meeting rooms. Home inspectors working Lancaster and Depew fill Windows-based report software on a Go 4 from the driveway, then print from the same file at the office. When the software list is non-negotiable, the tablet argument ends quickly.
No, and budget for it up front. The detachable keyboard runs 129 to 179 dollars depending on the version, and the Slim Pen is another 129. A Surface Pro without its keyboard is half a product, so treat the bundle price as the real price.
Yes, that is the entire pitch. Full Windows 11 means real Excel with macros, QuickBooks, AutoCAD, legacy company software, and any browser extension that is needed. The Snapdragon models emulate a few older programs, so check niche industry apps before buying.
For most majors, the Surface Laptop, because the rigid hinge works on an actual lap in a lecture hall. The Pro wins for anyone annotating readings with the pen or wanting the lightest possible bag. Engineering students running CAD should watch RAM specs first.
Yes, Microsoft sells a 5G configuration of the Pro 11, and it turns the tablet into a work-anywhere machine without hotspot juggling. Expect a roughly 200 dollar premium plus carrier fees, worthwhile mainly for field workers billing from job sites.
Excellent, and it is the biggest generational change here. The Arm based Surface Pro 11 delivers 12 to 14 hours of mixed work, roughly double what Intel Surface tablets managed. Standby is phone-like as well, so it wakes instantly after a weekend in the bag.
